The Screw Thread Tap is used to process the special internal thread of the wire threaded installation hole, also called the wire threaded Screw Thread Tap, ST tap. It can be used by machine or by hand.
Screw Thread Taps can be divided into light alloy machines, hand taps, ordinary steel machines, hand taps, and special taps according to their scope of application.
1. Straight groove taps for wire thread inserts Straight groove taps used for processing internal threads for installing wire thread inserts. This kind of tap is very versatile. It can be used for through holes or blind holes, non-ferrous metals or ferrous metals, and the price is relatively cheap, but it is poorly targeted and can do everything. It is not the best. The cutting part can have 2, 4, and 6 teeth. The short taper is used for blind holes and the long taper is used for through holes.
2. Spiral groove taps for wire thread inserts are used to process spiral groove taps with internal threads for mounting wire thread inserts. This kind of tap is usually suitable for processing the internal threads of blind holes, and the chips are discharged backward during processing. Spiral flute taps are different from straight fluted taps in that the grooves of straight fluted taps are linear, while spiral fluted taps are spiral. When tapping, it can easily discharge chips due to the upward rotation of the spiral flute. Outside the hole, so as not to leave chips or jam in the groove, which may cause the tap to break and the edge to crack. Therefore, the spiral flute can increase the life of the tap and can cut higher precision internal threads. The cutting speed is also faster than that of straight flute taps. . However, it is not suitable for blind hole machining of cast iron and other chips into finely divided materials.
3. Extrusion taps for wire thread inserts are used to process the extrusion taps for the internal threads of wire thread inserts. This kind of tap is also called non-groove tap or chipless tap, which is more suitable for processing non-ferrous metals and low-strength ferrous metals with better plasticity. It is different from straight flute taps and spiral flute taps. It squeezes and deforms metal to form internal threads. The threaded hole processed by the extrusion tap has high tensile strength, shear resistance, high strength, and the roughness of the processed surface is also good, but the extrusion tap requires a certain degree of plasticity in the processed material. For the threaded hole processing of the same specification, the prefabricated hole of the extrusion tap is smaller than the straight flute tap and the spiral flute tap.
4. Spiral point taps are more suitable for processing through-hole threads, and the cutting is discharged forward during processing. The solid core has a larger size, better strength, and greater cutting force, so it has a good effect on processing non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and ferrous metals.
