PCD, also known as polycrystalline diamond, is a new type of superhard material formed by sintering diamond with cobalt as a binder at a high temperature of 1400°C and a high pressure of 6GPa. The PCD composite sheet is a super-hard composite material composed of a 0.5-0.7mm thick PCD layer combined with a cemented carbide base layer (usually tungsten steel) under high temperature and high pressure. The structure is shown in Figure 1. It not only possesses the high hardness and high wear resistance of PCD, but also the good strength and toughness of cemented carbide. PCD composite sheets are made into PCD blades through cutting, welding, sharpening and other processes. They are widely used in machining and machine tool industry. The use of tools made of PCD materials on machine tools solves some problems such as cemented carbide, ceramic tools, and high-speed steel. When machining workpieces, PCD tools cannot meet the performance requirements of ultra-high surface brightness, smoothness, ultra-high precision, and high hardness. Therefore, PCD tools are known as super hard tools or gem tools and are well-known in the machinery manufacturing industry.
